About concrete

THE MATERIAL

Concrete is, in its simplest definition, a mixture of aggregates bound together by a paste, usually made up of cement and water. The combination of these materials and the process of mixing them together results in a material that is organic and full of character, making each piece of concrete unique and unrepeatable.

CHARACTERISTICS

The most common variations in concrete are the following:

Burbujas en superficie de maceta de concreto

BUBBLES

Small bubbles on the surface are normal, they are formed during the mixing process and rise to the surface during the casting of each piece. They are not considered a defect and do not affect its structural capacity; moreover, they add personality to each piece.

Agregados expuestos en superficie de maceta de concreto

EXPOSED AGGREGATES

In some cases, the natural aggregates we use to make concrete, such as stone, gravel or sand, may be visible on the surface of some of our pieces. This is part of the unique, unpredictable and natural texture of concrete.

Variación de color en superficie de maceta de concreto

COLOUR VARIATION

Concrete will never be a monotone block of colour as it is made up of different materials. Small variations in tone and texture create a unique patina that is distinctive to the character of the material.

Bordes heterogéneos en superficie de maceta de concreto

VARIED SEAM LINES

The moulds of some of our products are made up of more than one piece, so the surfaces near these joints may have variations in texture.

Líneas de flujo en superficie de maceta de concreto

FLOW LINES

The initial state of concrete is liquid, so in some cases visible flow lines may form on the surface. These lines are evidence of the fluid and dynamic origin of the concrete.

OTHER DETAILS

Due to the use of the moulds, some parts may have small imperfections. As with the above details, these make each piece unique.

OUR PROCESS

During the manufacturing process of all our products we take care of every detail, from the size of the sand grains to the temperature of the water in the mix. In addition, we use a series of additives to improve the characteristics of the concrete; this allows us to achieve shapes, textures and thicknesses that would seem impossible with this material.

Although it may not seem like it, concrete is a porous material, each piece is made up of tiny channels that run through the entire volume, making it very vulnerable to staining. However, we have developed a process in different stages which prevents this from being a problem for the pieces we manufacture.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Our concrete is highly resistant to impact, stains, and UV radiation, but proper care will ensure your piece lasts for years to come. For optimal longevity, clean with a soft cloth and fresh water, and always handle with care when moving.

While our pigments are UV-resistant, prolonged direct sunlight may cause subtle colour variations over time.
